Angel City Brewing

Branding + PACKAGE DESIGN

As Design Director of Studio Number One, I worked with Angel City Brewing on a brand refresh and a complete overhaul of their packaging.

Great consideration was given to assure that their new look would honor the brewery’s unique LA Art’s District location and Art Deco/Industrial interiors. The new logo depicts a fierce and iconic iteration of the Angel City angel, as seen on tap handles throughout Southern California. I created the pattern featured in the packaging’s background using both analog and digital methods.

The varied patterns and layers speaks metaphorically to the brewery as a place where people from all walks of life can come together and commune and where artistic expression is embraced and celebrated.

This brand refresh gave new life and relevancy to the brand’s products, festival setups, online presence, and other collateral. The first beers to debut this makeover was the Sunbather, the brewery’s flagship IPA, as well as Double IPA and Pilsner.

Nest Baby Diapers

Branding, Package Design, WEBSITE DESIGN, Collateral & SOCIAL Content

Clark Sather of KCK Industries and founder of Nest Diapers approached me to create an identity and package design based on his initial sketch and concept for a diaper brand which is safe for babies and the environment. I am proud to have been the sole designer of all things Nest: the website, package design, marketing collateral and social content. The line consists of compostable and skin-friendly diapers and training pants. It has grown tremendously since it’s start in early 2019, garnering a raving parent fan base and with retailers requesting for more kid and environment-friendly products to expand the line. We are currently working on a baby wipe product and value size diaper packaging for grocers and big box stores.

Because the packaging as well as the diapers themselves are plant-based and compostable, we wanted to keep the aesthetic very minimal. The Nest brand utilizes cheerful, nature-inspired line drawings to communicate its commitment to reducing the environmental impact usually found in traditional diapering.

EB Studios

BRANDING + WEBSITE DESIGN

As Design Director of Studio Number One, I worked on the branding, website design and launch for EB Studios.

This platform, created by James Franco and partners is the only philanthropic streaming video platform. EB Studios funds, produces and releases the work of emerging artists and provides mentorship from prominent industry professionals.

Most films are directed by students from UCLA, Cal Arts, USC and NYU (all schools where Franco has taught filmmaking) — some featuring well-known names including Natalie Portman, Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Kimmel, Jessica Chastain, Whoopi Goldberg and Franco himself.

“When these actors come back and work with the young people, it’s a great reminder of the joy of what we do, and why we got into it in the first place,” Franco said.

I worked with my team to create a dynamic identity system using refined typography, gritty textures and a moody palette that would speak to an audience of discerning creatives and patrons.

The site was customized and built using the VHX platform which allows for subscription-based streaming video content.

Koreatown Youth & Community Center Mental Health Campaign

CAMPAIGN & ANNUAL REPORT DESIGN

I worked with the Los Angeles Koreatown Youth + Community Center’s Clinical Services team and my creative team at Studio Number One (where I held the position of Design Director) to create a trilingual mental health awareness campaign.

In a culturally diverse community such as Koreatown, there still exists a great stigma to seeking help with mental health issues. Our goal was to reach members of the community of all ages and walks of life and to communicate that “it’s okay to reach out." The use of modern design style, typography and vibrant colors allow KYCC to talk about mental health in a positive and uplifting way.

Our successful poster campaign easily translated to an outdoor mural, t-shirts, totes, and other collateral.

I recently completed the design of KYCC’s 2019 Annual Report that proudly features and is inspired by the vibrant mental health campaign. I’ve altered the design slightly to give it a more sophisticated tone while still staying true to the original design aesthetic.

Newport Folk Festival 2017

EVENT BRANDING + DESIGN

As design director at Studio Number One, I art directed and helped design several pieces of merchandise for the 2017 Newport Folk Festival, which took place at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island with headliners Fleet Foxes, Wilco, and John Prine. Posters, t-shirts, totes, and patches were created based on the festival's logo and the Rhode Island state flag.

The concepting phase of the project was super fun. It’s amazing to explore all of the interesting ways you can communicate music. One of my favorite pieces to work on as we finalized the look and feel for the event was the intricate design of the bandana.

The Church of Rock & Roll

Branding + APPAREL DESIGN

During my time as Design Director at Studio Number One, my team and I worked with The Church of Rock and Roll to create their brand identity and brand visual guidelines.

“For Us, “Church” Means Community & Connection With Everyone. And “Rock & Roll” Means Freedom & Expression For Anyone, Anywhere.”

The Church of Rock and Roll is a lifestyle and a movement that provides physical and digital spaces for people to come together around shared experiences of discovery and fun under the umbrella of the common good. The use of bold colors, strong typography, and DIY techniques help to visually communicate the personality and vibe of The Church of Rock and Roll.
